Five years ago when I moved to Phoenixville, I was welcome from the very first day. I boasted to everyone I knew about how friendly the people were. “Even the teenagers say hello walking by,” I’d tell them. It felt like I was in back in the 1950s, a time when people knew each other and cared deeply about their community.

Being hired at the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce on Bridge Street gave me a bird’s eye view of the town, learning its history, and getting to know its organizations. The number of nonprofits in Phoenixville was amazing. Coupled with the compassion exhibited daily by so many people and volunteers I realized, this town was all heart.

When The Joy of Sox® joined the Chamber in February 2020, I took notice. As a former Brand Director, I loved their clear, concise mission. So simple, yet profound: to provide joy and health for those experiencing homelessness by giving them new socks. When I realized some of our local organizations benefited from their sock donations - Ann’s Heart, Good Samaritan Services, Orion Communities, St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter & The Clinic - I was intrigued and wanted to show support.

My June birthdays have always been a marvelous celebration I enjoyed with family and friends. For my 75th birthday, I had intentions of having an enormous party. But the pandemic changed what was important. Instead of a celebration for me, I want to celebrate Phoenixville!

It’s easy! Pick up a few pairs of new socks, for men, women or children and drop them off, or donate a few dollars online.

A small donation will go a long way to help meet my goal. Read more about The Joy of Sox here.

Stop by The Joy of Sox Warehouse at 400 Taylor Street in Phoenixville on Saturday, June 19 from 9 am to noon to drop off socks. I’ll be there to thank everyone in person.
